Jerusalem Police arrested a man in his twenties from the Old City after his mother reported his threat to carry out a terrorist attack. The man was located and arrested near the Lions’ Gate following a swift investigation.

The investigation revealed that the suspect had sent a message to his sister days earlier, stating, “I am going to carry out an attack,” and mentioning his prayers at the Al Aqsa Mosque. The Israel Police Arabic Facebook page shared a screenshot of the message, where the man accused his mother of mistreating him and vowed to harm his family.

An indictment has been filed against the suspect, and an Israeli court extended his detention, requesting it continue until the legal proceedings conclude.

Dean Elsdunne, international spokesperson for the Israel Police, highlighted the importance of this proactive approach in ensuring public safety. He credited the suspect’s mother for reporting the threat, allowing the police to act swiftly and avert potential harm.

This case underscores the critical role of community vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement in preventing tragic events. Families and communities are encouraged to report any suspicious behavior to aid in maintaining public safety.
