Education Minister Yoav Kisch has warned that the September 1 start of Israel’s school year could be postponed if funding for school security is not secured. Speaking before the Knesset’s Education, Culture, and Sports Committee, Kisch stressed that “without security for educational institutions, the school year will not open.”

He noted that the economic damage from even a single lost school day would outweigh the cost of the necessary security budget. Responsibility for the funding lies with the Finance Ministry and the National Security Ministry. Negotiations are ongoing.
