Israeli intelligence played a key role in Australia’s probe of two antisemitic firebomb attacks last year, according to Sky News.
Australia’s intelligence agency, ASIO, had already linked Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to attacks on a Sydney kosher restaurant and a Melbourne synagogue. A tip from Israel provided crucial evidence tied to one of the incidents.
The revelation highlights strong intelligence cooperation between Israel and Australia, despite recent diplomatic friction.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese this week publicly accused Iran of orchestrating the attacks, expelled its ambassador, and said Australia will designate the IRGC as a terrorist organization.
The two countries have collaborated before: in 2017, Israeli intelligence alerted Australia to a foiled Etihad Airways bombing plot.
