Arab and Muslim leaders meeting in Doha on Monday called for a review of ties with Israel after last week’s Israeli strike on Hamas officials in the Qatari capital.

The emergency summit, hosted by the Arab League and Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, brought together nearly 60 nations. A joint statement urged countries to consider downgrading relations with Israel and explore legal measures against it.

However, major players such as the UAE, Bahrain, Morocco, Egypt, and Jordan—states that recognize Israel—sent lower-level representatives instead of their heads of state, signaling caution.

The statement also called for efforts to suspend Israel’s UN membership. Still, it remains unclear what concrete steps will follow.

The summit coincided with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s arrival in Qatar, where he pledged Washington’s “unwavering support” for Israel’s fight against Hamas while also reaffirming America’s commitment to Qatar’s security.

President Donald Trump, asked whether Israel promised not to strike Qatar again, replied, “He won’t be hitting Qatar,” referring to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Trump emphasized that Israel’s focus remains on eradicating Hamas, not undermining its Gulf allies.
