Bayit Vegan Neighborhood in Jerusalem
At the peak of the of Jerusalem, there is another neighborhood that is perfect if you’re looking for a place to escape the bustling and crowded city. It is the Bayit Vegan neighborhood.
Bayit Vegan has a long history that can be traced all the way back to the early days of Jerusalem and has always been one of the city’s most important neighborhoods. It is currently one of Jerusalem’s few remaining Jewish areas and is home to many historical sites, including the headquarters for Keren Hayesod-United Israel Appeal.
Bayit VeGan borders the neighborhoods of Kiryat HaYovel and Givat Mordechai, which are located on the eastern side of Mount Herzl.
Aside from the notable history behind the prosperity of Bayit Vegan neighborhood, it’s also known to have rich archaeological discoveries. In fact, some archaeologists have found out that the large area of land near the neighborhood is an old and large cemetery that dates back to 5,000 years BC. Today, it is believed to be the largest burial site in the country of Israel.
Jerusalem has plenty of great neighborhoods structured by a renowned architect Richard Kaufman in the 20th century, including the Bayit Vegan. He designed at least six settlements in total, focusing on integrating individual and neighborhood buildings.
Bayit vegan is one of the holiest neighborhoods in Jerusalem and is home to many religious communities, including yesHIVas and seminaries for men and women. There are also many post-high-school programs in the area that combine military service with Torah study.
Jewish institutions in Bayit Vegan are: Ateret Yisrael Yeshiva and Religious Jewish institutions in Bayit Vegan include Netivot Chochma and Yeshiva University’s Gruss Kollel. The Boyar School, a secular high school for gifted students from all over the country and Israel’s first of its kind, is also located in Bayit Vegan.
The upscale Bayit Vegan neighborhood also houses the prestigious Shaare Zedek Medical Center, located at the entrance to Bayit Vegan. The hospital is a prominent medical institution that serves upper-class Jewish and Arab communities.
Beitar Jerusalem, the most successful Israeli soccer club currently in the Israeli Premier League, also has a practice field in the neighborhood of Bayit Vegan. This facility is an excellent example of how this team relies on the resources of their local community to pursue their goals.
