The conscription law crisis persists as lawmakers delay a reformed draft law proposal agreed upon by Defense Minister Israel Katz and Yuli Edelstein. As of Wednesday, no bill has been introduced to solidify ultra-Orthodox draft exemptions, threatening the coalition’s stability.

A representative from Agudat Yisrael, part of United Torah Judaism, criticized the coalition for wasting time, warning that their abstention on the prisoners’ profits law vote was a sign of growing dissatisfaction.

Meanwhile, the IDF faces a significant manpower shortage, with a deficit of 12,000 soldiers. Despite this, the IDF plans to enlist only 4,800 new recruits in the coming year, according to the head of the Planning and Manpower Division.
