A knife attack at Haifa’s Lev Hamifratz bus station on Monday left one man dead and at least four others injured in what authorities are treating as a potential terror attack.

The assailant, identified as Jethro Shahin, an Israeli citizen from the Druze community, was shot and killed by a security guard and an armed bystander. Family members denied any terror motive, citing his history of mental illness. Unconfirmed reports suggested he also held German citizenship.

The victim, identified as Hassan Karim Dahamsheh, a 70-year-old man from Kafr Kanna, was stabbed multiple times in the back. Among the four injured was a 15-year-old boy who underwent emergency surgery and is now in stable condition. Others wounded include a woman in her 70s and two individuals in their 30s.

Surveillance footage captured the graphic attack, showing the assailant tackling Dahamsheh to the ground and stabbing him repeatedly before being neutralized.

Eyewitnesses reported that the attacker arrived on a bus from Shfar’am, shouted “Allahu Akbar,” and began stabbing people. Police confirmed he had recently returned to Israel after months abroad and are investigating whether he acted alone.

Authorities have since raided the suspect’s home and questioned his family. The Mayor of Shfar’am and Druze leaders condemned the attack, emphasizing that it does not reflect their community’s values.

National Security officials are continuing their investigation.
