Iran has executed a man convicted of spying for Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency, according to the country’s judiciary.
The man, identified as Pedram Madani, was arrested in 2020 and accused of attempting to pass classified information to Israel regarding sensitive sites within Iran. He was also charged with acquiring wealth through illegal means, Iranian judiciary outlet Mizan Online reported.
Authorities said Madani underwent a full judicial process, and his conviction and death sentence were ultimately upheld by Iran’s Supreme Court before his execution was carried out.
Iran and Israel have been locked in a covert conflict for decades, often described as a shadow war. Tehran has previously executed individuals accused of collaborating with Mossad, particularly in cases involving alleged sabotage and targeted assassinations connected to Iran’s nuclear program.
Madani’s execution is the latest in a series of actions by Iran aimed at cracking down on what it claims are foreign espionage efforts within its borders.
