Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian was reportedly injured in an Israeli airstrike that targeted a meeting of Iran’s top officials in Tehran on June 16. The attack struck a building’s lower levels, aiming to trap those inside. Pezeshkian and others escaped through an emergency hatch, though several, including the president, suffered leg injuries.

The strike came amid a broader Israeli assault on Iran’s military and nuclear infrastructure. Iran later retaliated with more than 500 ballistic missiles and over 1,100 drones, killing 28 and injuring over 3,000 in Israel.

Iranian media suggests Israeli intelligence had inside help, prompting an investigation. President Pezeshkian told Tucker Carlson last week that the strike was a direct assassination attempt based on “spy intelligence.” Israel maintains that while military leaders were killed, regime change was not the goal. The war ended with a U.S.-brokered ceasefire on June 24.
