The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that it intercepted a missile from Yemen overnight, preventing it from entering Israeli airspace. The Iran-backed Houthi group claimed responsibility, marking its second attack on Israel this week.

The attack triggered air raid sirens across central Israel, including Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, sending millions into bomb shelters around 4 a.m. The IDF stated that the sirens were activated due to concerns over falling debris, though no direct injuries were reported. However, medics treated 13 people injured while rushing to shelters and three suffering from anxiety.

The Houthis claimed they had targeted Ben Gurion Airport with a “hypersonic ballistic missile” and also aimed at a U.S. aircraft carrier in the Red Sea. The attack briefly disrupted flights at Ben Gurion, delaying several international arrivals.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took shelter in the Knesset during the attack. Later, he vowed retaliation, stating, “The Houthis are already paying the price, and they will pay more.”

The Houthis, part of Iran’s regional network of militant groups, have been targeting Israel and Red Sea shipping routes since the start of the Israel-Hamas war on October 7, 2023, claiming solidarity with Palestinians.
