Israel has presented Hamas with an updated ceasefire proposal through Egyptian mediators, which includes the release of 100 remaining hostages, according to Israeli officials. This new plan seeks to capitalize on recent regional shifts, such as the death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar and an existing ceasefire with Hezbollah. It builds on the initial ceasefire framework from August, with the goal of securing a partial agreement.

Key points of the proposal, finalized during a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and senior ministers, include a ceasefire lasting 42 to 60 days. During this period, Hamas would release female hostages, those over 50, and critically ill prisoners. Although Israel had originally demanded the release of 33 hostages, they have adjusted expectations due to concerns some may no longer be alive.

The proposal also includes Israel’s readiness to release hundreds of Palestinian prisoners in exchange for the hostages. Israel is awaiting Hamas’s response, with the hope of finalizing the deal soon. If Hamas agrees, Israeli officials will travel to Cairo to iron out the specifics.

Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer also met with Trump’s National Security Advisor to discuss U.S. support for the deal before President-elect Trump takes office.
