Israel’s Defense Ministry has announced two significant defense contracts with Elbit Systems, valued at 1 billion shekels ($275 million). Signed by Defense Ministry Director General Major General Eyal Zamir and Elbit CEO Bezhalel Machlis, the deals aim to bolster the Israel Defense Forces’ (IDF) capabilities.

The first contract involves the production of thousands of heavy air munitions by Elbit Systems, while the second establishes a raw material plant for munitions production. These agreements are set to reduce Israel’s reliance on foreign-sourced munitions, enhancing its defense autonomy.

Western countries, including Canada, the UK, and even the US, have imposed restrictions or conditions on supplying Israel with military aid. In response, Israel is focusing on domestic production to maintain its defensive capabilities.

Zamir emphasized the importance of these contracts, stating that they lay the groundwork for Israel’s manufacturing independence in crucial areas. He praised Elbit Systems for its role in supporting the IDF during conflicts and ensuring a sustainable supply of vital combat equipment.

Elbit CEO Machlis expressed pride in contributing to Israel’s defense and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to the IDF’s munitions independence, strengthening the country’s defense infrastructure.
