The Israeli military struck a Hezbollah precision missile warehouse in Beirut’s southern suburbs on Sunday, hours after killing a Hezbollah operative in a drone strike in southern Lebanon.
The IDF said the warehouse posed a major threat to Israel, warning residents to evacuate before the strike. No immediate casualties were reported. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz stressed that Israel would not allow Hezbollah to use Beirut’s suburbs as a sanctuary, holding the Lebanese government directly responsible for preventing such threats.
“The storage of missiles in Beirut is a blatant violation of agreements and endangers Israeli civilians,” the IDF said.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned the strike, calling on the United States and France to pressure Israel to halt its actions. He warned that Israel’s attacks risk destabilizing the region.
This was the third Israeli strike near Beirut since a ceasefire with Hezbollah went into effect in November 2024. Previous attacks occurred after rocket fire from Lebanon into northern Israel.
Earlier Sunday, the IDF drone strike in southern Lebanon’s Halta killed a Hezbollah member involved in efforts to regroup and rearm the terror group. Footage of the targeted strike was released by the military.
Tensions between Israel and Hezbollah have remained high despite the ceasefire, which allows Israel to target immediate threats. The ongoing hostilities date back to October 8, 2023, when Hezbollah launched rockets and drones at Israel in support of Hamas following the Gaza invasion.
