An Israeli airstrike on Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, Gaza, killed senior Hamas political bureau member Ismail Barhoum on Sunday night, as Israel intensified its renewed offensive. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the strike, calling Barhoum a “key Hamas terrorist.” Hamas acknowledged his death, stating he had been receiving treatment for injuries from a previous strike.
The IDF said the attack was based on extensive intelligence and executed with precision weaponry to minimize civilian harm. Palestinian health officials reported that the strike also killed a 16-year-old boy. Footage from the scene showed fire in one section of the hospital but no major structural damage.
Israel has escalated its military campaign against Hamas leaders, killing at least four members of the group’s political bureau since resuming airstrikes last week. Another strike Sunday in Khan Younis reportedly killed Salah al-Bardawil, a senior Hamas figure.
The IDF also announced the elimination of two Hamas military commanders in recent operations. Meanwhile, it is preparing to expand ground operations, redeploying an armored division from the Lebanese border to Gaza.
Israel accuses Hamas of using civilian infrastructure, including hospitals, for military purposes, which it says violates international law. Hamas denies these claims.
