Israel’s High Court declined to issue an injunction against the government’s new process to fire Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara, allowing a ministerial panel to proceed with its first hearing Monday.

The court ruled the case was premature since no final decision had been made. The government, critical of Baharav-Miara’s resistance to its policies, created a new five-member committee to bypass legal hurdles. Watchdogs argue this circumvents proper procedure.

Justice Minister Yariv Levin and Minister Amichai Chikli filed an unusual, non-legal notice to the court, asserting the court has no right to intervene and warning that a ruling against the government could have dire democratic implications.
