An Israeli reservist soldier, Sgt. First Class (res.) Eviatar Ben Yehuda, 31, was killed, and four others, including a senior officer, were wounded in a roadside bomb attack in the West Bank, the military reported on Monday morning. The incident occurred in the town of Tamun, where a large explosive device targeted a convoy during a patrol.
Ben Yehuda, of the Ephraim Regional Brigade’s 8211th Reserve Battalion from Nitzan, was driving a David light armored vehicle when the bomb exploded. His battalion commander, a lieutenant colonel, sustained serious injuries. Three other soldiers in the vehicle were listed in light and moderate condition.
This attack marks another deadly roadside bombing in the West Bank, a tactic frequently used by armed groups against Israeli forces. In the past year, two soldiers and a police officer have died in similar attacks.
Violence in the West Bank has escalated since the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack on southern Israel, leading to war in Gaza and increased unrest. Since then, 46 Israelis have been killed in attacks, and over 858 Palestinians have died, most of whom the IDF claims were involved in violent confrontations. The period has also seen a surge in arrests, with around 6,000 Palestinians, including over 2,350 linked to Hamas, detained. Meanwhile, settler violence against Palestinians has also intensified.
