A stabbing attack near Jerusalem’s Damascus Gate on Sunday evening has led to increased tensions and security measures. A Border Police officer was lightly wounded in the incident, perpetrated by a 33-year-old man from Ar’ara. The attacker, identified as Zaid Abu Sbeih, was subsequently shot by security forces.
Following the attack, Israeli security forces conducted a raid in the attacker’s hometown of Arara, located in the Negev Desert. At least 10 individuals were detained for questioning as part of the investigation.
Hamas, the militant group that controls the Gaza Strip, claimed responsibility for the attack, citing ongoing Israeli operations in the West Bank and perceived threats to the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. The group urged Palestinians to escalate attacks against Israeli targets.
