Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reaffirmed his commitment to defeating Hamas in Gaza during a visit to an Israeli military position on Tuesday. Netanyahu vowed that Hamas would not rule Gaza after the war, despite ongoing concerns about the fate of Israeli hostages held by the group.
As Israel intensifies its offensive in northern Gaza, Netanyahu emphasized that Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have made significant progress in dismantling Hamas’ military and governing capabilities. “We are destroying its military capabilities in a very impressive manner,” Netanyahu stated, underscoring that Hamas must be removed from Gaza for Israel’s security.
The Prime Minister also increased the reward for the return of Israeli hostages, offering up to $5 million for each captive released, and safe passage out of Gaza for anyone who hands over a hostage. However, Netanyahu dismissed suggestions for a ceasefire that would allow Hamas to retain influence in Gaza, highlighting the ongoing effort to locate and bring home all hostages, whether alive or deceased.
Netanyahu’s remarks come as Israel faces internal pressure and warnings from defense officials about the hostages’ deteriorating condition, with some hostages reportedly losing significant body weight due to prolonged captivity. Despite calls for a negotiated deal, Netanyahu remains firm on his stance against Hamas’s continued control in Gaza.
