Poll: Most Israelis Say Netanyahu Should Not Seek Another Term

A new survey from the Israel Democracy Institute finds that 61 percent of Israelis believe Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should not run for reelection, as the country approaches a national vote due no later than October 27.

The poll, conducted between May 31 and June 5 with more than 750 respondents and a margin of error of 3.57 percent, found that 57 percent of Jewish Israelis specifically either oppose Netanyahu running again or are certain he should not. The prime minister has governed nearly without interruption since 2009, making him Israel’s longest-serving head of government.

The same poll found strong cross-partisan support for imposing term limits on future prime ministers once Netanyahu leaves office. Majorities on the left, center, and right of the Jewish Israeli political spectrum backed the idea, with overall support reaching 61 percent.

Netanyahu is expected to seek reelection. Current polling shows the race between pro- and anti-Netanyahu blocs remains close.
