A family destination and Israel’s biggest tourist attraction, the Jerusalem Biblical Zoo covers plenty of lush terrain in the south of Jerusalem. As one of Israel’s leading tourist attractions, it offers visitors the opportunity to explore 62 acres of natural beauty while they learn about the region’s rich history and culture.

The Jerusalem Biblical Zoo or is also called as the Tisch Family Biblical Zoo. It is a wildlife park located in Jerusalem’s Malha neighborhood.It is open to the public and offers an insight into the world of biblical creatures.

The garden has a rich wildlife collection, much of which is attributed to the many species that are detailed and described in the Bible of Hebrew. There are more than 170 species in this interesting zoo from small to huge animals.

Due to the wildlife park’s amazing collection of animals and impressive structural designs, it is known to be one of the most famous tourist spots in the country up to the year 2007. The zoo also has a record-breaking numbers of visitors in the previous years, specifically in 2009, when they logged more than 700,000 tourist visiting the place.

The zoo offers several different types of food and drink options, including coffee shops and snack bars. There are also picnic tables and benches that allow visitors to enjoy the variety of animals on display.

There is also a jungle gym for kids featuring animal themes, as well as a sculpture garden that contains 23 sculptures of animals. These phantasmagorical sculptures are sure to make everyone who views them feel like they’re in the company of some of the most unusual and exotic creatures that have ever existed.

The sculptures at the Biblical zoo, designed by French sculptor Niki de Saint Phalle and architect Mario Botta, depict a variety of animal figures from the Bible. They include an underwater Noah’s Ark sculpture that is accessible through an underground passage.

History Behind the Jerusalem Biblical Zoo

The Jerusalem Biblical Zoo started as a humble animal corner in 1940 on the street of Rabbi Kook in the heart of Jerusalem. According to history, this was the first wildlife to be established in the ancient world.

Aharon Shuvlov is the person behind the establishment of the Biblical Zoo. He is a zoology professor in the campus of Mount Scopus at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Professor Shulov was also one of the founders and first president of the Israel Zoological Society.

Miller-Blum & Associates Landscape Architects created and planned the zoo’s stunning construction. Moriah Jerusalem Development Corporation then made the development possible.
