The Mamilla Mall or Alrov Mamilla Avenue in Jerusalem

Jerusalem is known to feature historical sites and events but it’s also a home for extravagant shopping streets like the Mamilla Mall.

Mamilla Mall is a well-known Jerusalem shopping boulevard. It is also known as Alrov Mamilla Avenue, since people can walk through the 2,000 feet street and shop to over 140 designer stores. You can find here luxury fashion houses like Gucci and Prada, as well as flagship stores for Macy’s, Apple and H&M.

It also features plethora of excellent restaurants, and coffee shops to serve the best cuisines of Jerusalem to the people. There are also office and apartments at the upper floors of the buildings.

The 19th century buildings in the Mamilla street was designed by a renowned architect named Moshe Safdie. It was then developed by Tel Aviv’s Alrov Properties and Lodgings Ltd. adding amenities like a large parking area and still incorporated the earlier design of the avenue.

You can find the mall situated on a tall parking garage with six floors. The garage can accommodate over thousands of cars and buses. The modern structure of the establishments gives the impression of an endless sequence of tiered terraces brimming with flora.

The parking garage terraces are outfitted with skylights, which allow direct sunlight and give each floor of the garage a bright and open feel. Then, the city buses wait at terminals outside the parking garage gates for their next riders. It’s definitely a perfect place to take a walk and feel the bustling city of Jerusalem.

The irregular spacing of the buildings along Alrov Mamilla Avenue is unusual, as they are not placed in a continuous line. Rather, they are spaced at irregular distances that make the avenue appear more like a series of smaller streets than one large thoroughfare.

Furthermore, the open spaces between the buildings are home to a variety of public areas that provide different perspectives of the historic landmarks beyond the avenue. These areas include, but are not limited to, The Tower of David and Jaffa Gate.

In the popular Mall of Mamilla, also lies its long history before it was turned into what it is today. During the development of the Alrov Mamilla Quarter, the mall was part of it including the surrounding hotels, villages and other establishments in the area. It waiting period for the completion of the project because of the constant delays during the construction.

After many years of development and a lengthy approval process, the Mamilla Mall opened its doors in stages from 2007 to 2008. It took at least 37 years to be completed and opened after the initial proposal of the establishment.
