The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) is working to reinstate “The Road Between Us: The Ultimate Rescue” after backlash over its removal.
Directed by Alexis Bloom, the documentary follows Maj. Gen. (res.) Noam Tibon’s daring rescue of his son, journalist Amir Tibon, and his family during the October 7 Hamas attack on Kibbutz Nahal Oz. The film includes footage taken from Hamas body cameras.
TIFF CEO Cameron Bailey apologized, stating the decision was not censorship but tied to copyright concerns over the footage. He pledged to collaborate with the filmmakers to meet screening requirements.
The pull sparked criticism from Israel’s Foreign Ministry and Canadian Jewish groups. Bailey urged patience as legal options are explored to allow the film’s inclusion in the festival lineup.
