President Donald Trump announced Wednesday evening that the United States has reached an agreement with Iran and called off scheduled military strikes against the Islamic Republic.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump declared that talks had been brought to the highest levels of Iranian leadership and approved, and that discussions had been finalized “in both concept and great detail” with a broad coalition of parties including Israel, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Turkey, Pakistan, and others.

Trump added that a US naval blockade of Iranian ports would remain in force until the agreement is formally signed, with the time and location of the signing to be announced. Iran had not publicly confirmed the deal as of the announcement.

Analysts noted reasons for caution: Trump has previously declared imminent Iran deals that subsequently collapsed, and has threatened major military strikes against Iran only to reverse course multiple times. The continued blockade itself suggests the agreement is not yet fully finalized. The reported framework centers on a memorandum of understanding extending a fragile ceasefire, with follow-on talks on Iran’s nuclear program to follow.
