As ceasefire efforts continue in Gaza, President Trump is pushing for a broader diplomatic breakthrough in the Middle East—one that includes normalizing ties between Israel and countries like Saudi Arabia and Syria.
Trump has expressed optimism that the recent Israel-Iran conflict created new diplomatic momentum. “Iran was the primary problem,” he told Fox News. “Now we can start bringing others into the fold.”
Syria, long considered off-limits, may now be in play. A Syrian official confirmed indirect talks with Israel, facilitated by U.S. envoy Tom Barrack and American rabbi Abraham Cooper. A meeting between Netanyahu and Syria’s interim President Ahmad al-Sharaa is reportedly possible if Trump commits to Syria’s rehabilitation.
Talks currently focus on Israeli troop withdrawals from a southern Syrian buffer zone. Notably, Syria has not raised the issue of the Golan Heights, a sticking point in previous negotiations.
Trump hopes the Abraham Accords will now evolve into a broader peace architecture with Turkey, Syria, and Gulf states at the table.
