Trump Threatens Fresh Iran Strikes as Ceasefire Talks Stall

President Trump warned Wednesday that Iran would “pay the price” for dragging its feet on a negotiated settlement, saying he may order strikes on Iranian power plants and bridges as fighting continued on multiple fronts.

“They had a chance to sign a deal and survive,” Trump posted on Truth Social, dismissing Iran’s military as “a complete and total mess” even as Iranian forces downed a U.S. Apache helicopter and struck American bases in Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan.

Qatari negotiators traveled to Tehran Wednesday in a bid to revive talks, but Iran’s Foreign Ministry said the new U.S. strikes would prompt a reassessment of its negotiating position. U.S. airstrikes near Bandar Abbas reportedly cut off drinking water to 20,000 residents in the southern port region of Sirik amid extreme heat.

One sign of tentative progress: the first oil tanker carrying non-Iranian crude has passed through the Strait of Hormuz bound for Rotterdam, the first Europe-bound shipment since the war began in March.
