WASHINGTON — Former U.S. President Donald Trump warned Iran on Sunday that failure to reach a new nuclear deal could lead to devastating bombing and economic sanctions.

In an NBC interview, Trump stated, “If they don’t make a deal, there will be bombing the likes of which they have never seen before.” He also suggested imposing secondary tariffs on Iran, similar to those enacted during his previous term.

The warning comes after Iran rejected direct negotiations, though indirect talks reportedly continue. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian reaffirmed Tehran’s stance against direct engagement with Washington while under economic and military pressure.

Iran has significantly expanded its uranium enrichment, reaching 60% purity—just short of weapons-grade levels. While Tehran insists its program is for civilian purposes, analysts warn it could be weeks away from developing a nuclear weapon.

Trump previously withdrew the U.S. from the 2015 nuclear deal, reimposing sanctions. Since then, Iran has increased enrichment and limited international inspections.

The nuclear standoff has heightened tensions, with Iran launching missile attacks on Israel in support of its proxy groups, including Hamas and Hezbollah. Israel has responded with strikes on Iranian military sites.

Trump’s latest remarks indicate a hardline approach, but it remains unclear whether any military action would be coordinated with Israel.
