Eucalyptus is can be found in the heart of Jerusalem where you can indulge yourself with the panoramic view of the renowned Tower of David as well as the historic city walls. The location of the restaurant is very unique since for the past 20 years, the area has been left empty not until a talented chef decided to build his unique dining place called Eucalyptus.

The restaurant was set in an ancient stone building and had a huge scenic balcony. The balcony provided views of the old city’s famous sunsets that would light up the night sky every evening.

Biblical cuisine is reimagined in the Eucalyptus restaurant, founded and operated by Moshe Basson. Passionate with the biblical culture, Chef Basson sought out the old recipes, spices, and wild herbs that gave the foods of antiquity their distinctive flavors.

Eucalyptus, opened its doors to the public in 1960. It’s distinctive name was based on the small eucalyptus tree that the founders planted in their front yard during the celebration of the New Year of Trees or also known as Tu b’Sheva. 

The story of the Basson family’s restaurant is one that stretches back over many years. The tree in the restaurant’s garden, and the building itself, have continued to flourish as time goes by. When Moshe Basson family left the business to his hand, he began to actively preserve the rich history of his culture and heritage, with a story that spans centuries. 

Eucalyptus Restaurant Menu

The tasting menu offers an interesting way to experience the food in this restaurant. Every cuisines he made was derived in various Biblical scenes. Almost all the herbs, spices and ingredients used by Chef Basson are seen in ancient times growing in the surroundings of the Holy Land. There are three different pricing tiers available every night, each with a different number of dishes on offer.

The menu contains a variety of creative culinary options and the highlights include Figs Stuffed with Chicken. It is topped with a unique-tasting tamarind sauce. It’s also famous for serving a well-prepared Beef Fillet alongside with its side dishes such as mashed potatoes and garlic confit. .

The traditional dish of the Eucalyptus, which is a must-try, is the Chubeira Gnocchi. The ancient dish is partnered with a cream made from tomato and lemon.
