Discover the Historical Museum of Yad V’shem
Are you looking for an extraordinary place to visit in Israel? Well, the historical Museum of Yad V’shem is the best place, since it features a significant event in the country. The Holocaust Memorial is the largest of its kind outside of Jerusalem and stands prominently on the Mount of Remembrance.
The museum becomes accessible to the public in 2005, which features galleries of interactive historical displays that shows the Holocaust and its deep history. Photographs, films, documents, writes, and works of art from the camps and ghettos are included in the multimedia.
The desire to build a memorial for the Holocaust victims came about during the World War II, when accounts of the mass murder of Jews in countries occupied by Nazi’s came to light. In September 1942, the Yad Vashem was presented by Mordecai Shenhavi at the Jewish National Fund’s board meeting. It was initially conceived as a means for commemorating the Jews who died in the Holocaust or fighting against Nazi Germany.
Yad Vashem conducts exhibits about the Holocaust and maintains a list of Holocaust victims. It also tries to establish study programs for particular age, curriculum, and educational resources for Israeli and international schools so that they can teach learners of all ages about the Holocaust.
Alongside the Holocaust History Museum, the Yad Vashem campus has a variety of other notable memorials that are worth visiting. One of these memorials is the Hall of Remembrance which is a place where ashes of the dead can be buried, and an eternal flame can be lit to commemorate the souls.
Yad Layeled is also a hidden gem in the Museum Yad Vashem housing the Children’s Memorial where over million victims of Holocausts, mainly children, are remembered. You can also find here the Memorial to the Deportees, which is a railroad car that has been hung over the side of a cliff in order to serve as a makeshift memorial for those that have lost their lives in war.
You can spend as few as two hours at this museum, or you could spend a whole day here, touring the complex and getting lost in the history that is on display. Tours are available, but we recommend experiencing this museum at your own pace to get a true feel of the experience.
