The Street of Ben Yehuda is a well-known pedestrian boulevard mall where you can walk, shop, and dine on the famous boulevard. The area starts from the street of King George going to the Jaffa Road that is approximately 400 meters away.

The street was named after Eliezer Ben-Yehuda, the founder of Modern Hebrew. The street of Ben Yehuda is commonly referred to as the combined words sidewalk and street– The Midrechov. It has become a complete sidewalk in 1983 when the street was closed off to motorized vehicles.

The Street is not only a great place for tourists to visit and take in the many shops that line the street, but it has also become a major culinary hub in the middle of Jerusalem. This street has been a key road in Jerusalem for several years and became one of the first one to claim the name “Ben Yehuda” in the year 1891, decades before Israel’s formation in 1948.

Between 1948 and 2001, the road was a major target of terrorist bombings due to its importance as a major thoroughfare. The bloodiest atrocity occurred in 1948, when over 120 individuals were massacred. But it soon recovered and became an important site of commerce and transportation during the Second Intifada.
