Israel’s Supreme Court signaled Tuesday it may pursue a negotiated agreement to curtail National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir’s influence over police rather than order Prime Minister Netanyahu to fire him.

Nine justices are hearing petitions alleging Ben Gvir unlawfully interfered with law enforcement — blocking officer promotions and making public statements against police investigations.

Justice Noam Solberg asked whether Netanyahu, Ben Gvir, and Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara would return to negotiations over a binding framework limiting the minister’s role. Government lawyer Michael Rabilo confirmed they would. “Definitely,” he said.

Solberg urged the parties to look past the question of who violated a previous agreement and focus instead on whether it could be reinstated through the next elections.
