President Donald Trump declared during his State of the Union address that U.S. strikes last year “wiped out” Iran’s nuclear program, while warning that Tehran is attempting to rebuild it.

Trump vowed that the United States would never allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons, calling the country the world’s leading sponsor of terrorism. He said military action remains on the table if diplomatic efforts fail.

While emphasizing a preference for a negotiated solution, Trump accused Iran of continuing nuclear and missile development despite previous U.S. warnings. He said any future deal must include an explicit commitment from Iran to permanently abandon nuclear weapons.

The president highlighted last year’s strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities as a major foreign policy achievement and praised increased military pressure in the Middle East. He did not mention China and only briefly referenced Russia during the address.

Democratic leaders criticized the administration’s lack of transparency, urging public debate before any additional military action. Intelligence officials have stated that while Iran does not currently possess an intercontinental missile, it could develop one in the coming decade.

Trump concluded by reaffirming U.S. military strength and promising decisive action against any existential threat.
