President Donald Trump said Tuesday that the United States is currently holding negotiations with Iran, describing talks as taking place “all over” and declining to name a specific location.

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump dismissed reports of uncertainty surrounding a planned meeting later this week, after Iran reportedly objected to US proposals for talks in Istanbul that would include regional observers.

“They are negotiating. They’d like to do something,” Trump said. “We’ll see if something is going to be done.”

An Arab diplomat confirmed that Washington had invited several Arab and Muslim countries to attend the talks as observers, but Axios reported that Tehran wants negotiations moved elsewhere and limited to direct participants.

Trump referenced the June US strike on Iran’s nuclear program, known as “Midnight Hammer,” suggesting the threat of renewed military action remains a factor. “I don’t think they want that happening again,” he said. “They would like to negotiate.”

Iran’s foreign ministry has said discussions are ongoing regarding possible venues, underscoring the fluid and uncertain nature of the talks.
