Senior advisers to President Donald Trump reportedly believe it would be politically advantageous for Israel to strike Iran before the United States launches any military operation, according to a report by Politico.

The report cites sources familiar with internal discussions who say an Israeli-initiated attack could prompt Iranian retaliation, potentially increasing public support in the US for American involvement.

“There’s thinking that the politics are a lot better if Israel goes first and Iran responds,” one source told the outlet.

While talks between US and Iranian officials are ongoing, advisers close to Trump reportedly believe a military strike is increasingly likely regardless of diplomacy. Some officials have discussed the possibility of a joint US-Israeli operation, whether or not Israel initiates action.

Concerns remain over the scale of any potential campaign. Officials cited in the report warn that a large-scale attack could strain US military resources and increase vulnerability elsewhere, including in Asia.

“There’s a real risk of American casualties,” one source said, noting that US assets across the region could become targets if Iran retaliates fully.

As diplomatic efforts continue, the administration appears to be weighing both military readiness and political calculations amid rising regional tensions.
