The United States has ordered the USS Gerald R. Ford — the world’s largest aircraft carrier — to leave the Caribbean Sea and head to the Middle East, according to a person familiar with the plans.

The move comes as President Donald Trump weighs potential military action against Iran amid escalating tensions over Tehran’s nuclear program.

The deployment will place two U.S. aircraft carriers in the region. The USS Abraham Lincoln and three guided-missile destroyers arrived in the Middle East more than two weeks ago.

The added naval presence significantly increases American military capabilities in the area, reinforcing Trump’s message that Iran must reach a deal on its nuclear program or face consequences.

While the administration continues diplomatic negotiations, Trump has made clear that military options remain on the table if talks fail.

The Ford’s redeployment underscores Washington’s strategy of combining diplomacy with visible military deterrence as it seeks to pressure Iran into an agreement.

Officials have not publicly detailed how long the carrier will remain in the region.
