Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu endorsed former US President Donald Trump’s proposal to relocate Gazans during the Strip’s reconstruction, calling it a “remarkable idea.”
In an interview with Fox News, Netanyahu said, “It should be examined, pursued, and done.” His support follows Trump’s controversial statement that the US should “take over Gaza” to clear debris and unexploded weapons, suggesting Gazans be permanently relocated.
Defense Minister Israel Katz later directed the military to draft a plan for voluntary emigration. He suggested Gazans be allowed to leave via land, sea, or air, calling it a step toward a “demilitarized” Gaza.
Arab nations, including Egypt, Jordan, and Gulf states, strongly rejected Trump’s idea, refusing to accept Gazan refugees. Western countries such as Canada were also named as potential destinations.
Far-right Israeli politicians welcomed the plan, claiming it would enhance Israel’s security. However, Trump’s remarks sparked global backlash, even within his own party. The White House later clarified that any relocation would be temporary.
Netanyahu praised Trump’s willingness to challenge conventional thinking, while reaffirming Israel’s commitment to eliminating Hamas and bringing home hostages.
