President Donald Trump confirmed early Sunday that the U.S. had launched airstrikes on Iran’s key nuclear facilities—Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan—joining Israel’s ongoing campaign to cripple Tehran’s nuclear ambitions.
“Fordo is gone,” Trump posted on Truth Social, announcing the use of six bunker-busting bombs to destroy the underground site. Additional strikes included 30 Tomahawk missiles fired at Natanz and Isfahan from U.S. submarines.
Trump delivered a televised address, flanked by Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, calling the operation a “spectacular military success” that had “obliterated” Iran’s nuclear enrichment capacity.
The U.S. coordinated the attack with Israel, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised Trump’s leadership, calling it a “pivot of history.”
Iran acknowledged the strikes but vowed to continue its nuclear efforts. Its atomic agency claimed there was no radioactive release, while officials accused the U.S. of violating international law.
Iran’s state broadcaster warned that every American in the region was now a “legitimate target.” Maps of U.S. bases in the Middle East were shown, with threats of retaliation.
Seeking to limit escalation, the U.S. reportedly messaged Tehran that it does not seek regime change. Still, Trump warned, “There are many targets left,” if peace is not pursued.
In Israel, the military reimposed strict wartime restrictions, closed airspace, and banned public gatherings. Land borders with Egypt and Jordan remain open.
The strikes follow a week of Israeli attacks on Iranian infrastructure and leadership. Iran has launched over 470 missiles and 1,000 drones at Israel in retaliation, killing 24 and injuring thousands.
Whether this marks the peak—or just the beginning—of a broader conflict remains to be seen.
