Following coordinated US-Israeli strikes on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, former President Donald Trump publicly demanded an end to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s ongoing corruption trial. In a fiery Truth Social post, Trump labeled the proceedings a “ridiculous witch hunt” and called for Netanyahu’s charges to be dropped or pardoned entirely.
Trump praised Netanyahu as a “warrior” who helped eliminate one of the most imminent nuclear threats in the world. “We were fighting for the survival of Israel,” Trump wrote, “and there’s nobody in Israel’s history that fought harder or more competently than Bibi Netanyahu.”
Netanyahu is currently on trial for three corruption cases—Cases 1000, 2000, and 4000—involving bribery, fraud, and breach of trust. The most serious, Case 4000, accuses him of regulatory favors to benefit telecom mogul Shaul Elovitch in exchange for positive media coverage.
Trump’s intervention is unprecedented and comes as Netanyahu’s cross-examination resumes after being paused during wartime. Echoing Netanyahu’s own rhetoric, Trump characterized the charges as politically motivated and urged Israelis to end what he called a “horror show.”
“Such a witch hunt for a man who has given so much is unthinkable to me,” he wrote. “Bibi Netanyahu’s trial should be cancelled immediately.”
Netanyahu has denied all allegations, claiming they are part of a politically driven attempt to remove him from power. Though Netanyahu himself has not commented on Trump’s statement, his Likud party shared a translated version on social media.
Trump’s dramatic call to intervene in another country’s judiciary has further polarized opinion in both the US and Israel, particularly as Netanyahu leads a government under legal scrutiny during a time of national crisis and war.
