After nearly 900 deaths in violent clashes in Syria’s Druze-majority city of Sweida, Israel is preparing to send medical aid.

Fighting between Druze fighters, Bedouin tribes, and government forces has devastated the area. In response, Israel’s Health Ministry announced it would send medical equipment and supplies to a damaged hospital once all permissions are cleared.

“This is about our shared humanity and a covenant of life,” said Health Minister Uriel Buso.

Druze fighters have reportedly regained control of the city. Meanwhile, international pressure, including from the U.S. and EU, has led to a fragile ceasefire between Israel and Syria.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, at least 940 people have died, including hundreds of civilians. Over 87,000 have been displaced.

Israel continues to stress that minority communities like the Druze must be protected, both within and beyond its borders.
