Police have arrested an 88-year-old man after he confessed to murdering his five-year-old son in Eilat more than 50 years ago.
The suspect, identified by Kan as Asher Goldstein, reportedly told police he drowned his son in 1974, claiming he acted out of “mercy” because the child had cerebral palsy. At the time, authorities believed the death was an accident.
Goldstein is no stranger to violent crime. Just two years after the child’s death, he was convicted of killing his wife with an iron bar and served time in prison.
According to reports, Goldstein, who now suffers from a terminal illness, approached Eilat police to clear his conscience. He was taken into custody and is expected to appear in court for a detention hearing.
The shocking confession reopens a decades-old tragedy and casts new light on one of Israel’s earliest known cases of filicide.
