U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff revealed Tuesday that President Donald Trump will chair a White House meeting to discuss a “comprehensive plan” for postwar Gaza.
The plan marks Washington’s first detailed involvement in shaping Gaza’s future after months of deferring to Arab allies. Trump previously suggested relocating Gaza’s residents, an idea rejected by regional partners. Witkoff described the new plan as “robust” and “humanitarian,” but gave no specifics.
The administration has also hardened its stance against partial hostage deals. Hamas recently accepted an Arab-brokered proposal for a phased release of captives, but both the U.S. and Israel rejected it, demanding Hamas’s total defeat first.
Prime Minister Netanyahu is preparing an IDF operation to seize Gaza City, arguing it’s Hamas’s last stronghold. Critics warn such moves endanger hostages and fuel further insurgency.
Witkoff insisted Hamas is under heavy pressure and now signaling openness to a settlement. Still, he stressed the U.S. and Israel want all hostages released at once.
The envoy also linked the Gaza crisis to broader goals, saying Trump hopes to resolve conflicts in Ukraine and Iran this year while expanding the Abraham Accords.
