Maj. Gen. (res.) Nitzan Alon, the IDF’s former point man for hostage negotiations, says Hamas faces “objective difficulties” locating the body of Ran Gvili, the final deceased hostage still held in Gaza.

Alon told Ynet that chaotic conditions inside Gaza after the October 7 attacks have complicated Hamas’s efforts to retrieve remains. Despite reports that searches in Gaza City’s Zeitoun neighborhood failed, Alon believes Gvili can still be brought home, emphasizing that continued pressure on Hamas yields results.

Gvili, a 24-year-old police sergeant, rushed to join the fighting near Kibbutz Alumim despite recovering from an injury at home. He was badly wounded and later taken into Gaza, where authorities say he died shortly afterward. The issue remains a deeply emotional national priority.
