An extremist ultra-Orthodox faction known as the Jerusalem Faction has called for nationwide protests this afternoon in response to the recent arrests of Haredi men who refuse to comply with Israel’s military draft.

According to Hebrew media reports, the group’s leader, Rabbi Azriel Auerbach, issued a statement instructing supporters to take to the streets at 4 p.m., declaring, “We are going to war.” The statement reportedly warned that arrests would be met with widespread disruption.

Protest locations have not been publicly announced, a move intended to complicate police preparations. In past demonstrations, the Jerusalem Faction has blocked major highways and city arteries, drawing tens of thousands of participants.

While opposition to military service exists across much of the ultra-Orthodox community, the Jerusalem Faction is considered among the most extreme anti-draft groups. Previous protests have frequently devolved into clashes with police.

Earlier this month, at least 10 officers were injured during riots in Jerusalem that erupted amid attempted arrests of draft evaders in ultra-Orthodox neighborhoods. Police are bracing for renewed unrest as the demonstrations begin.

Authorities have urged protesters to remain peaceful while emphasizing that the law will continue to be enforced.
