US President Donald Trump issued a sharp warning to Hamas on Monday, saying the group would face “hell to pay” if it does not disarm within a “very short period of time.”
Speaking alongside Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after their meeting at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida, Trump said Hamas had agreed to disarm and must follow through. Hamas has denied such an agreement, insisting it will only give up weapons as part of a broader process toward Palestinian statehood.
Trump said the US would push quickly toward the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire plan but acknowledged progress has stalled. The proposed phase includes a transitional technocratic government in Gaza, international stabilization forces, and steps toward demilitarization.
The president also said he would support Israeli military action against Iran if Tehran continues advancing its nuclear or ballistic missile programs. Despite behind-the-scenes tensions over Gaza, Trump publicly praised Netanyahu, describing their relationship as strong and closely aligned.
Trump appointed envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to oversee efforts to secure Hamas’s disarmament, warning that failure would lead to severe consequences.
