Israeli police arrested three residents of the Arab town of Tira on suspicion of carrying out a deadly highway shooting that left three young men dead Tuesday night.

According to police, the suspects opened fire on the victims’ vehicle as it traveled on a highway just south of Tira in central Israel. The gunfire caused the driver to lose control, sending the car crashing into a bus.

Firefighters later extricated the victims from the wreckage, but all three were pronounced dead at the scene.

A large police manhunt was launched immediately following the shooting. Officers were able to track down and arrest the three suspects shortly afterward, authorities said.

Investigators believe the attack was motivated by an ongoing blood feud between two rival families. The case has been transferred to Central District police detectives, who are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting and whether additional suspects were involved.

The incident is the latest in a surge of violent crime plaguing parts of Israel’s Arab sector, prompting renewed calls for stronger law enforcement and community intervention.
