A phone call between President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu turned explosive Monday when Trump reportedly unleashed a torrent of profanity at the Israeli leader, demanding he stand down from planned strikes on Beirut and agree to a ceasefire with Hezbollah.

According to Axios, citing US officials, Trump told Netanyahu: “You’re crazy. You’d be in prison if it weren’t for me. I’m saving your ass. Everybody hates you now. Everybody hates Israel because of this.” A second source confirmed Trump also demanded to know what Netanyahu thought he was doing. Officials described Trump as having “steamrolled” the prime minister, with Netanyahu ultimately responding: “OK, OK, just make sure everything is taken care of.”

Trump later posted on Truth Social that the call was “very productive” and that Netanyahu had reversed troop movements toward Beirut. Israeli military sources disputed that any troops had actually been en route to the Lebanese capital.

Despite Trump’s announcement of a new ceasefire, Hezbollah continued firing into northern Israel into Tuesday morning, and Lebanese media reported fresh Israeli strikes in the south. Netanyahu subsequently warned Israel would proceed with Beirut strikes if attacks continued.

The episode drew sharp criticism from across the Israeli political spectrum. Former IDF chief Gadi Eisenkot accused Netanyahu of capitulating under pressure, while far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir called on the prime minister to tell Trump “no.”

The latest flare-up follows months of renewed fighting between Israel and Hezbollah that began in early March. Israel says it has killed over 2,500 Hezbollah operatives since then, while the group has fired roughly 8,000 rockets and drones at IDF forces and Israeli territory.
